Nikki Sixx's Photography Book
Motley Crue's bassist Nikki Six has been through the ringer several times over. His 2007 expose The Heroin Diaries followed the rock star on his cocaine and heroin fueled downward spiral at the height of Motley Crue's popularity. In his latest book, This Is Gonna Hurt: Music, Photography and Life Through the Distorted Lens of Nikki Sixx, Sixx documents the strangely groteque and beautiful world he inhabits. Take a peek into the mind of Nikki Sixx with this book or check him out live with Motley Crue concert tickets for Motely Crue tour dates with Poison and the New York Dolls, both on sale now.
About Motley Crue
When metal was Big and hair bands ruled the Earth, Motley Crue was King. Formed in (where else?) Los Angeles in 1981, front man Vince Neil, drummer Tommy Lee, bassist Nikki Six and guitarist Mick Mars followed the Book of Rock to the letter, surrendering completely to the sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle. Aside from their garish wardrobe, tattoos and a fondness for groupies though, Motley Crue is best known for making great metal.
During the 80s, the band released Shout at the Devil, Theatre of Pain and Girls, Girls, Girls, all headbanging classics that celebrated the Crue’s carnality and licentiousness. Nikki Six’s near brush with death after a heroin overdose where a fan stuck him with two shots of adrenaline, reminiscent of the John Travolta/Uma Thurman scene in Pulp Fiction, was the inspiration for the band’s hit Kickstart My Heart off the album Dr. Feelgood.
The band headlined Ozzfest in 2010 and Motley Crue and Poison Tickets have sold like wildfire for their 2011 tour marking the band’s 30th anniversary. Tommy Lee, best known for his simmering directing debut with Pamela Anderson, is hosting a TV show on Syfy, Culture Shock with Tommy Lee, about strange cultures and secret societies, and the band’s memoir The Dirt, co-authored by Neil Strauss, writer of The Game, is in talks to be made into a major motion picture starring, Jared Leto as Vince Neil, Ashton Kutcher or Russell Brand as Tommy Lee, Justin Timberlake as their first manager, Jack Black or Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Ozzy Osbourne, and Brad Pitt as David Lee Roth.
