About the Show:
One of John Kander and Fred Ebb's masterpieces, Chicago is a landmark musical. Originally opening in 1975, it has received countless award nominations for its original Broadway and West End productions and for its revivals. Many of Broadway's best have played the iconic roles in the show, including Chita Rivera, Gwen Verdon, Liza Minnelli, Bebe Neuwirth, and Joel Grey. The current Broadway revival is the fifth longest-running show in Broadway history, and continues to thrive by recruiting actors from theatre, film, and television to step into the lead roles. Notable replacements have included Ashlee Simpson, Joey Lawrence, Christie Brinkley, John Schneider, Chandra Wilson, Mya, Lisa Rinna, and Sofia Vergara. The 2002 Oscar-winning film version, directed by Rob Marshall, starred Catherine Zeta Jones, Renee Zellweger, Richard Gere, John C. Reilly, and Queen Latifah.

While Chicago may draw in crowds due to its star-studded casts, it didn't become such an iconic show without an amazing vaudeville-inspired score, which features such classics as "All That Jazz," "When You're Good to Mama," "All I Care About," and the "Cell Block Tango." Perhaps the most notable achievement of the show is its renowned choreography; legendary choreographer Bob Fosse created a truly amazing set of steps for the show, and it is still performed in his style today. The current production utilizes minimalist set and basic black costumes to emphasize the emotion of the dialogue and songs and the inherent genius of the choreography. Get back to basics and get your Chicago the musical tickets today. It is a deviously drop-dead beautiful experience every theatre fan should have.

Plot Synopsis:
It's the late 1920s in Chicago, Illinois, and vaudeville performer Velma Kelly has just murdered her husband and sister after discovering them in bed together. Velma welcomes the audience to the show by singing "All That Jazz." Meanwhile, chorus girl Roxie Hart has also committed murder, having killed her lover, nightclub owner Fred Casely in a fit of rage. Roxie manages to convince her simple husband, Amos, that the victim was an intruder in their home, but when the police announce the name of the deceased, he realizes what had been going on, and Roxie is arrested. She is shipped off to the women's block of the Cook County Jail, where she meets Velma and several other femmes fatales, all of whom maintain their innocence. The block is managed by the corrupt Matron "Mama" Morton, who readily accepts bribes from the inmates in exchange for favors, including helping Velma become a media sensation in hopes of making a vaudeville comeback. Velma immediately dislikes Roxie for stealing her fame and her lawyer, the silver-tongued hotshot Billy Flynn. With Billy's help, Roxie becomes the new star murderess of the city (and adopts a bratty, entitled attitude just as quickly), but she is soon replaced by the next new pretty face. In a city where guilt and innocence are judged by popularity and scandal elicits just as much admiration as disapproval, Roxie and Velma must try to manipulate the system to climb back to the top (and escape the noose).
