About the Show:

Since its inception, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark has gotten a lot of press for its huge budget (now reaching $70 million) and its continuous re-tooling (with several months of preview performances), but more importantly, it has received a great deal of attention for its innovative features. It is truly a show that is revolutionizing what a Broadway musical can be. Other shows have included aerial sequences (Tarzan, Peter Pan), but Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark takes high-flying acrobatics to a new level. The show includes more than 20 aerial spectacles, including combat sequences, many of which take place above the orchestra section of the theatre. There are also huge, moving set pieces and scores of impressive projections that immerse the audience in the world of a 3-D graphic novel, reminiscent of the classic Marvel comics by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
As if these exciting features weren't enough, Spider-Man also includes some of the most beautiful costumes and makeup ever to grace a Broadway stage. The masks, imagined by Director Julie Taymor (The Lion King), are striking works of art, and the vivid costumes impress all the way to the last row. The show's score, composed by U2's Bono and The Edge, is heavily rock-oriented, but also includes elements of opera and classic musical theater. Truly an ingenious hybrid, this show attracts theater fans and first-time theatre-goers alike. Plot Synopsis:

New York City teenager Peter Parker has a hard time fitting in at school and is harassed by bullies, especially Flash Thompson, who takes pleasure in giving him a hard time. Peter's home life isn't much easier; he has been living with his Uncle Ben and Aunt May since his parents died in a tragic plane crash. Fellow student Mary Jane Watson, who Peter has a crush on, also has a hard home life despite being popular at school. When the class takes a field trip to scientist Norman Osborn's lab, Peter is bitten by a spider that has been genetically altered, and he soon realizes that the bite has given him superhuman powers, including superhuman strength, the ability to sling webs, and the ability to cling to walls and ceilings. Seeking to capitalize on his new abilities, a masked Peter enters a wrestling match and upsets the crowd by winning. He hurries home, ignoring cries for help from Flash, who is being car-jacked. But when a thief shoots and kills Uncle Ben, Peter realizes the importance of using his powers to help those in trouble. The mysterious Arachne descends upon Peter and gives him his signature costume, officially starting his career as Spider-Man.
Peter, as Spider-Man, begins slinging through the city, saving citizens in danger. When Norman Osborn catches wind of this new masked superhero, he wonders whether his research has been stolen and is pressured by the military to push his experimental research faster. When a tragic accident kills his wife, Osborn goes crazy and adopts the villainous alter-ego of the Green Goblin. Peter tries to find balance in his life between school, a new job as a photojournalist at The Daily Bugle, a budding relationship with Mary Jane, and his duties as Spider-Man. But is the call to duty too much for this young man to handle? Can he ever hope to have a life of his own?
