Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter John Legend got his start when Lauryn Hill hired him to perform piano on her breakout solo album track Everything Is Everything. From there, John Legend guested on Jay Z’s Encore, Alicia Key’s You Don’t Know My Name and Kanye West’s Never Let Me Down, after which Kanye signed Legend to his laebl. After that, John Legend lyrics to his own songs were parsed over by fans everywhere and he’s practically become a household name with an upcoming John Legend tour with R&B slow jam titans Sade.
With nine Grammy Awards, John Legend is able to pull his own guests now including rapper Andre 300 of Outkast who appeared on Green Light off of John Legend’s Evolveralbum.Wake Up!, a collaboration between The Roots and John Legend was a huge success and featured appearances by Melanie Fiona and Common in the video for Wake Up Everybody.
Despite his massive success, Legend hasn’t forgotten where he came from. He recently started a campaign called Show Me which supports education reform. Besides the John Legend tour with Sade, he’ll be performing this summer with The Roots and Stevie Wonder at a series of shows honoring the legendary Marvin Gaye.
